This original broadside
was printed in 1865. The text of The Emancipation Proclamation
has been written in such a way as to create a portrait of President
Abraham Lincoln with the words themselves.
The seated photograph of Lincoln was taken by Mathew Brady on
February 9, 1864. Lincoln said of it: "I don't know
that I have any favorite portrait of myself; but I have thought that
if I looked like any of the likenesses of me that have been taken, I
look most like that one." |
